Generated Media Length

When I change the length of clips in the Media Generator (in the box provided in the dialog or in the box in Properties) the keyframe timeline length changes accordingly, but the actual length of the clip on the main timeline does not change. When I check the properties of the clip it reports the new length, but it is not actually that length. It is still the default (old value).
If, for example, I change the length of the clip in the dialog (from the default 10 seconds) to 20 seconds and create a keyframe at 15 seconds, the transition never happens. I can drag the clip to make it 20 secs long and force it to work, but why doesn't it change automatically?
It would be nice to be able to enter the exact length numerically (secs, frames, etc.) as I would expect the dialog setting to do.

Are you sure the timeline length did not change? A clip from the Media Generator defaults to (say) 10 seconds. You can take that clip and stretch it out to three times it's original length. The clip is *still* 10 seconds long but now repeats three times (as shown by the triangles along the top of the clip).

You can also take that original clip and shorten it to five seconds on the timeline. The clip itself is *still* 10 seconds long, but you only see half of it.

After you lengthen your clip .. stretch it out on the timeline to see where those triangles are, and how long the actual clip is now. It is possible that you are only seeing a portion of the newly re-sized clip.

NOW I see it! That works perfectly. I did not know about the triangles.
I wish someone would write a book about all those little things that are not in the (very abbreviated) manual. I can't find any third-party books anywhere.

Thanks very much.
