Getting 'Adobe Default Windows Sounds Driver' popup..

Gerko wrote on 3/9/2005, 1:45 AM
Since i upgraded to Vegas 5.0d I'm getting an 'Adobe Defualt Windows Sound Driver' popup message each time I launch the software. I also run Permiere Pro 1.51 on my machine.

The pop-up instructs me to change some setting in my ASIo setup and activate input ports. When I check this they already are!!

My soundcard is an Audigy 2 ZS. Can anyone explain why this happens every time I start Vegas?

Thanks

Gerko

In vegas you need to go to the "Audio Device" set up tab and look at "Audio device type". From what it sounds like right now you have it set to use the "'Adobe Default Windows Sound Driver" driver. So just change it to the driver you want to use and hit apply.

Nope...In Optons...Preferences...Audio Device Tab I have SB Audigy 2ZS ASIO(A000) selected so it's not that.. My playback devices are all set to 'wave' and my default audio recording device is set to MixL/MixR.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Many thankx.

Initially when I installed Vegas 6 it gave me a pop up about not being able to produce sound. Then I edited, I think under Preferences>Audio Hardware, something about choosing a different sound player and now I get the following problem:

I launch Vegas 6, splash screen appears, then underneath it another pop up gives me an error mesage but I can't read it because it is obscured by the splash screen. Pressing ctrl-alt-del tells me that Adobe Default Sound Driver is trying to launch. I have ununstalled Vegas 6 several times now but the problem keeps coming back. It would appear that I would have to make a registry change somewhere to delete whatever setting I have made the first time.
In HKEY local machine>software>Sony Media Software>Vegas 6 I have dleted everything and re-installed Vegas 6 again but the error message keeps popong up and I can't get into Vegas.

I have Vegas 5 also installed and when I try to run it I also get a message:
Adobe Default Windows Sounds Driver
The audio input is not activated.Recording audio is not possible.
Please click on the ASIO Setup button in the Preferences>Audio Hardware dialog.
Make sure a device name is selected in the Input Ports section and activate the corresponding check box in the first column.

It was to this pop-up that I responded to in the first place in Vegas 6 that screwed me up.

Please help since I am unable to relaunch Vegas 6

Adobe Premiere ships with an ASIO emulation driver. This driver basically allows for non-ASIO hardware to work in Adobe as ASIO devices. (This driver is essentially the same driver that is available with Steinberg products.)

If you have no intent on using this driver in Vegas OR in any Adobe Product, then you can disable it by locating the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ASIO\Adobe Default Windows

You will find a key labeled

CLSID

rename the key to xCLSID

This will prevent Vegas from scanning this driver but will also prevent its use in Premiere.

The alternative is to run Preimere and correctly configure the driver.

You could also disable the driver as described.
Launch Vegas.
Turn off the show logo at startup in Vegas' general prefs
Exist Vegas.

Renable the ASIO driver by renaming the key xCLSID to CLSID.

Start Vegas.
Select the Adobe driver in the Audio Device prefs page
Apply the change
Click the advance button
Click the Configure button
Correctly configure the driver.

We will be addressing this issue in an update to Vegas 6.

Thanks a lot!!!!
Your suggestion worked perfectly.

I think the problem started when my son installed a trial version of Premiere 1.5 on my computer.
Interestingly it also affected Vegas 5 as well in the same way.

I have four choices under Audio device type:
1. Microsoft Sound Mapper
2. Direct Sound Surround Mapper
3. Windows Classic Wave Driver
4. Adobe Default Window 1.5
Which of the four is the best for Vegas, I really don't understand the difference between them?

You don't specify the type/brand of audio hardware you have.

The mapper uses Windows "mapping" to stream audio.
Wave Classic uses the driver directly and permits multiple audio ports if you have a card that supports this.

Since your card does not have ASIO drivers, you could try an use the Adobe driver.

ASIO is generally for lower latencies. It will permit overall better performance at the cost of some CPU overhead. It will also permit software input monitoring when the driver/hardware is capable of lower latencies - 10 ms or lower, depending on who you talk to. Lower latencies are also important for the new audio scrub feature. The lower the latencies the better the control on the scrub.

If you want a good asio driver, try http://www.asio4all.com

It works for me, very tweakable.

Thanks
I have a Sound Blaster Extigy. Its an esternal sound device that plugs into the computer with USB. I am also running Win XP Pro. Does that make a difference?
