getting an error message on a burned cd

i have a cd that was recorded and finalized on a real time burner. about 30 seconds into finalizing i remember the OPC signal flashing about four times, but then it finished the finalization countdown and said COMPLETE! Now, it will not play in any cd player, and when i try to rip it into sound forge i get this error message.

-- An error occured while extracting audio from CD. Error 0x8004e0c8 (message missing) --

also when i tried to rip the file with audiograbber it also shows that there is information but it gives an error that says

--ASPI didn't answer--

it is reading that there is a track on the cd that is 66 minutes long, which is correct. so there is information on the disc. it was a live recording that can't be recreated, so i would appreciate any help anyone can offer.

thanks a lot.

It sounds like there was an error while you where closing the disc. I know a lot of players will not playback unclosed discs. Just a thought, have you tried playing the CD in the original recorder? Sometimes realtime recorders will playback unclosed discs. You also might want to try a program like CDrwin or Nero, where you can tell it to "ignore" errors and you might be able to do an extraction that way and get the audio to be able to burn a new disc. I've run into this problem a couple times using real time recorders and having an error like you described when trying to finalize the CD and having it be unplayable when it was done. Luckily for me, it wasn't a live recording and just a DAT transfer, so I was able to redo the transfer. I found I would run into this problem on certain cheaper CDR's.

Presumably the TOC was not written( correctly, so the laser doesn't know where to look for the data. Doubt that there's much you can do.
