You can:
Use scripts to remarry them
or
Open the Video in the Trimmer (right click, choose "open in trimmer")
There are other methods, but the overall answer is "Yes, you can resync/bring back deleted audio related to a video event."

Sorry but how does opening in the trimmer help?

Other NLEs have a simple menu option to reunite audio and video.

Vegas seems to lack some basic options such as not giving any feedback of start/length when dragging events.

When you open the clip in the trimmer, the associated audio is also there. You can then drag the audio to the timeline.

I like Vegas but I am finding that it makes you jump through hoops to do the simplest things.

For example: The selection in the trimmer only set when it is selected first in the timeline.

If you want to trim an event, it's not convenient to be forced to change your loop region to do it.
