Getting Started

HELP! I am new to Vegas 4.0 and am completely overwhelmed! I have tons of Captured video and no clue how to get started piecing it all together. I started out with a simple title screen and then tried to use the TRIMMER to MARK my beginning and end.
(see below from online help)

Three-point editing
Open a media file in the Trimmer.

Mark the in and out points in your media file to create a selection:

a. Click the Play button in the Trimmer to start playback.

b. Press [ or I to mark the beginning of the selection.

c. Press ] or O to mark the end of the selection.

Position the cursor in the timeline where you want to add the event.

Click the Add Media from Cursor button to insert the selection after the cursor position in the currently selected track, or click the Add Media Up to Cursor button to insert the selection before the cursor.

The above does not work! I can select the Beginning with "I" but when I hit "O" for the end nothing happens. The clip keeps playing. What's up with that?

Is there not some plave that has a basic step by step on how to assemble a basic video? This is way too difficult to grasp! I'll never get a video complete by reading this manual.

PLEASE SOMEBODY...HELP!

Don'y have Vegas in front of me, but you need to move to where you want the end point before hitting ] or O.

It may be easier for you not to use the trimmer and just drag all your clips onto the timeline and trim them "normally" there. That part is a little more intuitive.

Here is what I did!
Opened Clip in Trimmer window.
Selected the play button from trimmer.
Hit "I" where I want the clip to start (Yellow arrow appears at top of clip)
(continue playing)
Hit "O" where I want the end to be. (nothing happens, and clips keeps playing)

I don't understand why it is not working the way the the online help describes.
