I have used Vegas for sometime and am now experiencing this problem. I have recently upgraded my machine to a clean install of WinXP, downloaded all updates, and latest version of all SF software.

I thought the problem was a corrupt source file as 2 renders generated the error at what appears to be the exact same point (about 4:32 into the file). I rendered from that point to the end of the file (ie. from 4:32 - 34:00) and the file rendered fine.

BUT - this morning I tried to render the whole project again and within moments I got the aviplug.dll error - well before 4:32. In fact, Media player can't even open the file (whereas it could before). SF Please help! I can't afford to loose gobs of time to this.

hmmm...

Do you have a Radeon card with the new catalyst drivers by chance? If so, you need to go back to the earlier drivers (ATI issue). If not...

please email your problem project (.veg) to drdropout@sonicfoundry.com, and provide your system specs and EXACT render settings. We'll do our best to sort this out quickly.

Thanks for the quick response. I will have to check on video but I don't believe it is a Radeon as my video is on-board. I'm running a P4 1.8 with Intel board but I'll have to check model.

As a note - I re-trimmed every event and put all clips on a new track. I rendered - video only - and had no problems. I then stared a fresh project and begin an advanced capture. 28 minutes in, I had a total of 9 dropped frames (which I never had a problem with before, but I can live with it). I left the room came back and somewhere between minute 28 and 35 the project halted due to an error. I checked the details and again it was the aviplug.dll.

Unfortunately I can perform no more tests as I will be away from that machine until this evening. I will keep posting.

Thanks - Mike

SonicEPM,

Here are the results of my latest tests. First, I am on an Intel D845GRG motherboard and using the onboard video, P4 1.8 with 512MB RAM, 30GB primary and 80GB video only drive (both 7200rpm). Last night, I downloaded the latest video driver (dated 8/1/02). As for audio, I am using Soundblaster Live but the Intel board does have onboard audio and installed Soundmax(?).

In a completely new project, I performed a 60 minute capture without error. I began another 60 minute capture. After 4 minutes WinXP shut itself down with an error. I rebooted and began the capture again. This time without error.

I rendered a small 10 minute .avi (default template) without error.

I have re-encountered the error (aviplug.dll) after viewing 30 minutes of the first captured file at 2x speed. (I capture all footage, watch while dropping markers and then trim. My first pass is done at 2X speed to save time). The error occurred. I re-started VV and almost immediately upon watching the video, the error popped up again.

I am posting this simply to keep SF informed. Any thoughts ANYONE has that could help make my system more stable would be greatly appreciated.
