Ghosts in the Trimmer

fosko wrote on 11/28/2014, 3:31 PM
I just started using trimmer... so maybe this is common....

Completed project one. Saved it. Open project 2 so I can complete work on it. I have 4 files in my PROJECT MEDIA.. all pertaining to project 2. When I click PLAY in trimmer...it plays the file from the previous (closed) project...which is NOT listed in Project Media.

Weird

Not certain if this is the issue you have but you need to open each item you want to see in the Trimmer window separately. I usually double click on the item I want in Project Media and this then appears in the Trimmer window, replacing anything that was there beforehand.and so allowing you toedit from there to the Timeline.

Hope this is the answer.

I remember having seen this a couple of times - it's weird indeed. I think the solution was to restart Vegas so it empies its cache, as opposed to loading the next project in the same open instance of Vegas.

The same weirdness happens with Media Manager and it's annoying. I can't think of this as anything but a never fixed bug. Of course I'd loved to be proven wrong.

There are two buttons in the trimmer window that might help clear things up; one is the "Clear Trimmer History" button and the other one is called "Remove current media from Trimmer History".

Well, sure, but in my case I am working on each event in TVPaint and I need to watch my WIP often (many times a day) in context of the events surrounding it but whenever I export a clip from TVPaint and play it back as an event in Vegas, I never know if I'm seeing my latest or previous version. Would you know if this is a bug or just the nature of the beast? Since this just happens randomly, I suspect it's a bug and what makes it tiresome is that it would be a very, very old bug. It doesn't sting -- just whines.

I am not sure what TVPaint is and what it does but it opens up to the question on where the bug is; in your outside app or in Vegas?

It's a 2D animation program from which I import lossless AVIs as my events. I doubt it's on the TVP side though since this curiosity never shows up in any other app. It's not a big deal though, and like the Artifacts that show up in Vegas (yes, they are back) are never reported by anyone else, I am not expecting Vegas to spend any time on this issue just for my sake. I resolved that problem by substituting the Media Manager for Explorer, one of the only two Windows which becomes transparent and creates artifacts when I activate my external Preview monitor (the second Window being the Media Generator). Otherwise I love Vegas and never cease to recommend it to other animators. No software is flawless (with the possible exception of Directory OPUS.) :)

@Paul

I am trying to understand what your workflow here is. A)Are you rendering from Vegas to TvPaint and then back to Vegas? B)Are you putting an event on the timeline, leave it there, leave Vegas and work in TvPaint and the exact same file?

A) seems complicated but B) is what I do with Mercalli 3.0. or any still image I have. If the event is already in the time line, I just open the particular file in the outside app, save ,y work and when I go back, Vegas refreshes the timeline with the reworked event.
