I have not yet been able to get Vegas rendered files to play on a MAC. I posted a question here on the forum some time ago and one person agreed with me that it was a problem but no one offered any solutions or definitive answers.

In short, I have done several tweaks of the template used to render the file to QuickTime compatible formats but with no success. No matter what I do it won't play on a MAC. The other interesting thing is that every attempt at rendering will play on an old original Windows 98 PC with no OS updates or service packs and Windows Media Player and QuickTime programs that are of the same vintage.

I also noticed that the rendered files do not match the template specifications. For example, I specify rendering as a PHOTO-JPEG movie file, but that's not what I get.

Another comment: Vegas rendered files will not play on my Motorola RAZR phone even though everything else I've tried will - including MOV files direct from my Olympus camera and files rendered by Windows Movie Maker. I am certain that there some type of bug in Vegas related to rendering for non-PC platforms but apparently there isn't much concern. The fact that no one other than myself has yet responded to your post seems to verify that.

Basically what I am doing is providing 10 or so ten minute clips (that I edited in Vegas) to a client who, will then author them along with his own movies to one or two DVDs. Is my only option to print to tape and have him recapture and render to mpeg2? I will take a test DVD to him today.

Thanks for the reply.

Not intended as a answer, but interesting reading on how things are. Be sure to read the various LINKED pages that go into more specifics on why MPEG-2 can have issues on Macs.

Still not sure what to do: "How do I render as a closed GOP m2v file?"

Can I do this with vegas and dvd arch or do I need a different app such as TMPGEnc?

thanks,

Jeff

I am sorry if I am dense... In vegas 5d do I render as a MainConcept MPEG-2, Default Template? Do I need to change the extension to mv2?

This morning my mac friend could play my DVDA2 authored DVD with QT, however, we could not figure out how to get mpeg files into his dvd studio, since my dvd just has BUP, IFO and VOB files.

thanks..again,
