You could start by telling us about the file. Was it rendered in Vegas? How long is it? Resolution, bitrate? PAL or NTSC? Widescreen?

And did you set your project properties to match those of the video?

The bit rate is the default, 8 I believe. The file is

MainConcept MPEG-2 rendered in Vegas 7.

Size: 3.11 GB (3,183,314,948 bytes)

That's before a scene selection menu with 4 items.. The overall size is 4.2G.

The template is set to "default" which is what I have used for years.

The project properties match the video.

I could understand a long recompress time if I had added special effects or other stuff but all I added was 4 chapter markers.

The file works fine in DVDA 2. Have I just spent good money for a buggy upgrade?

Use one of the appropriate DVDA templates for rendering. from Vegas. That's what they are there for. The new default templates seem to cause DVDA4 to re-render.

I guess you've been lucky. Most of the times that I've seen someone say DVDA wants to recompress their supposedly compliant file, it turns out they used the default template in Vegas.

Never had a problem with the DVD Architect Video Stream templates.
