Ho! Great project you've got in front of you. I guess there are several options:

Option 1 - Scan in some gold flashy source material and use Vegas Text as a "Mask"

Option 2 - Use the Media Generators with a whole bunch of bump and FXs . . I'd have too experiment this

Option 3 - Use a Bespoke Title graphics package - there are plenty out there

. . and finally, create/use some "glinting" effect with elongated stars or lens flare creatively to get that "glistening" effect .. . yeah?

. . .and finally FINALLY! When you've done it upload your finished Veg to Kelly's site for us all to share . .. well that's up to you . . :)

there is a glass effect veg somewhere. I don't know if it has been updated for Vegas 5. But if it has, and you find it, I suppose you can just change the colour and you'll have become an alchemist.

It’s probably not worth the time it takes to do this in Vegas. Just use any paint package. I use Mediachance RealDRAW Pro for a lot of my titles (it even shows safe areas). It does really nice 2D/3D lettering with presets for things like gold and silver, brushed metal, etc. It’s really very easy to use and very inexpensive.

Like others already said, you're probably better off using a third party application, then bring it into Vegas. If you want to do it alone in Vegas the combination of many filters can get you close to a shiny and/or texture look. To have motion with light reflecting off the lettering try using the spotlight effect in the bumpmap FX filter and set keyframes.

Also try Convolution kernel, film grain and add noise. To go through all the trouble is hardly worth the effort... other apps already have presets and 2D-3D effects which make it look better.

Try this. Film some chrome up close with a netural reflection, but you still need some to give the look. Then layer your "gold" text over it with some transparency to allow the metallic reflecitiveness thru.

Gold is base plus reflection - metallics are hard to fake without ray tracing or sampling of materials.

get this zip file for a sample to get an idea - I threw this together in a hurry

Note: I lifted the chrome off the net, so take your own shot if you use this method.

If you're looking for true gold look, you've got a bit of a tough road. Gold is a dullish colour until you add light and reflections. I've faked this with gradients and light sweeps, but it's still not right. The cheepest I've done it, personally, is with "Cool 3D," a nice little program that you can get from your local BestBuy or CompUSA. There are presets in there that will make your life easy.

For the life of me, I can't remember the name right now, but I have it at home and if someone mentions the name I will remember it.

It's a titling program that can work with Vegas that looks like it was primarily developed for Flash. It is very inexpensive.

It has the shiny gold text look you are looking for.

The guy on this forum who makes Daytrader University used it on his on-line listed promo/demo.

Maybe someone here can remember the name???

It's out there. I just can remember the name.

**30 second later edit: Bluff titler. That's the program name.

yes.. bluff.. and here's the demo (though at the urging of some of you, I'm moving toward less goldy-silvery looking titles now) ... ::
