When I first started using VF I did have a lot of problems with dropped frames and running audio and video at the same time. Then I came across the best bit of advice in the Forum, and it solved most of my problems. The advice was, get yourself a fast computer. After a frustrating weekend editing a clients video-clip I purchased Compaq 5000, it is a P-III 1K with a 30gb DMA-100 drive. What a difference.
For my money VF is great value, and will in time be a great program. The biggest mistake Sonic have made is advertising it as an entry level program that can be run on minimum of 400K. The other problem is very poor, misleading and badly written documentation. There is also a belief that everyone understands sound editing terminology such as, events. You do get the feeling that the writer did not understand the video business.
I am now using VF professionally to produce video for multimedia and am very impressed with it. However, though I have had a long experience in sound and video editing I still spent a lot of hours trying to figure out how to make things work. Often there is no reference at all it the documentation.
I would also like to thank those people who have contributed to Forum as they have been a tremendous help to me over the last 3 months. In fact, most of the information has come from the Forum.
PS. I'm using VF2.00a. I made a clean installation after problems upgrading VF2.00. I used the Reg No from VF2.00. All worked OK
