good basic system?

what would be a 'good' setup for vegas 4?

i don't want to bleed to death on the cutting edge (lost too much hair to go through that sort of thing again!), and i really don't mind going out and having a cup of tea during a complicated render.

would like good audio i/o for dat, cassette, etc., and would i be any better off using either a adv 100, or similar internal firewire card for monitiring rather than the little sony dv handycam i'm using at the moment?

thanks in advance,

leslie

Most any computer designed for vid is great, as long as it's got a brand name motherboard rather than an SIS or MTI, or other low end MOBO, you likely will be happy. A P4 3.06 proc is inexpensive these days, and plenty fast for most functions, especially if you don't mind dealing with rendering.
For an I/O, there are lots of options, if you want great sound, look at audio cards from Echo or M-Audio. For a converter, it's hard to beat any of the Canopus ADVC series. Their ADVC 1394 can act as a converter and Firewire I/O for a great price.
