good digital photo resolution for pan/crop

i have 350 digital photos from our vacation to estes park. these were taken with an olympus c5050 5MP digital camera, which has a resolution of 2560x1920 pixels. i'm going to use pan/crop for making a slideshow of these and was wondering if i should reduce the pixels before putting into the pool? if so, what would be a good size?

the reason i think i should reduce these is the preview is pretty slow. i'm not zooming in a lot on the photos, so i wonder if reducing the image size would help with preview and rendering, w/o losing much quality?

Slambubba,
There are several threads on this topic. Search on Scan Photos to find many. Here is one that will probably answer your question.

What is probably more important than the images size is the file type. Converting them to .png will help a lot. If you're zooming in say to 200% then so long as their resolution is double that of a frame you should be OK.

i'll convert them all to png and see if that helps the fuzzy previews. i'm just using preview quality and it doesn't look too great. i have no problems using good or best quality preview for video.
