Thanks for your kind words. This is mostly just a graphical change, but I snuck in a few new features at the advise of our fine quality assurance department. We still have plenty of features on the horizon though... including a view of the forums where you can see an entire thread on one page. Since we get mixed reviews on that subject, we'll probably make it a preference you can change in the "edit account" section.
and I am highly looking forward to the one page load of all replies to a thread, the loading of a different page for every reply get's to be very tiresome and tedious. Please hurry!!!
Thank you,
rednroll
You still haven't fixed the goback function. If I'm on message 35, and the message I'm reading has 10 responses, I have only the choices of returning to page one of the forum, (and having to wait for two message panels to load to get back to message 35), or, using the back button to back thru the 10 preceeding messages in the post I was reading, in order to get back to the page I want to be. Cosmetic fixes are nice, but how about fixing this long standing stupid glitch that makes navigating this site extremely slow and tedious.
That's a really good point. I've got to move on to some other projects right now, but I'll try and get back in here and make some improvements in the near future.
Thanks Sonic. Please, please, please do. This little flaw makes it extremely difficult to go very far back in time without major slowdowns, Makes it real hard to explore back beyond a few days. It'll improve the site 100%.
I select "50 topics per page" on the Edit Account menu. When going "Back to Vegas Family," I see a long list of posts and don't have to renavigate thru several pages of 10 items.
However, I've found no workaround to enlarge the font size which is much too small.
Can you ladies get a chatroom and discuss the layout and colors of a message board?
Man, you're annoying. This thread is one post too long. Yes it's new. Relax.
It's like you've never seen a webpage before.
People are here asking questions for christs sake...that's what forums are for....especially when it takes so long SF support to write back an answer.
Get a life.
The look of the message board.. "woooooooooowwww"!
You reply twice to a post on "wow, love the message board" but yet I've counted six important questions that have never been addressed from any SF techs yet.
While I'm at it? What is the REAL reason you can't add a separate section for Vegas Video and Vegas Audio?
There is non expect shear laziness.
Man if I were in charge, whoever is making these decisions would be fired week 1 into it. There's too many people who CAN do.
Sorry, but I'm a little bothered with these bugs and no replies from SF techs in over 3 days (now it's the weekend)...then reading these useless posts and finding SF replies all over them.
Duh JoeD, maybe you should wake up. For starters this isn't a message board. It isn't a board at all. It is a web based forum. The whole idea behind a forum is so people can pick a topic and chat about it. ALL THEY WANT. That's two things you didn't get. The third thing is what topics you read or reply is totally under your control.
You seem miffed this topic and another similar one got a lot of attention. The reason would be obvious to most people... people are expressing their views on what they like and don't like about the new forum format in part because the format to some extent determines how well the forum functions and gets used. Now that the font size issue has been addressed it seems most people that post regularly at least seem to like the new format.
The fourth thing that sailed over your head is either you didn't bother to read it or it flew right past you which is the following notice that appears at the gateway to the forums:
"The Sonic Foundry Discussion Forums are peer support areas where you can share tips and advice with other Sonic Foundry product users. We monitor these boards periodically. However, if you require immediate technical support, please choose from the options on our Support Home Page."
According to my calendar it is Saturday. My guess any Sonic Foundy employee responding during off hours is doing so on his personal time. Hope that's alright with you if that person picks which topics to comment on. To put it another way Sonic Foundry employees don't have to respond to fourm questions at at all neither during business hours or hardly during the weekend. Thankfully they do all the time.
Now that you are hopefully up to speed on how things work you may wish to ask for help. You may be surprised how fast you get a helpful answer from one or more users of Sonic Foundry products. Remember it is a peer to peer forum.
Duncan:
I'm happy that SonicKSA plans to give us a choice for either preference in the future. The advantage to what you call the 'non-threaded' layout (IMO) is that you don't have to constantly wait for messages to open.
The offsetting advantage of the 'threaded' layout is that you can scan the list of responses without scrolling through several pages of open-response text. Oft times in this forum, I'll look ahead in a topic at who has offered responses. Sometimes, I'll skip all the "me too" messages and move ahead to a response from Sonicxxx or other posters from whom I've come to expect informed and helpful responses to the problems presented here.
Pinnacle's consumer webboard is set up in a fasion similar to the example you offer. I wonder if the similarity is not the result of common authoring software, the ISP, or some other common factor. They really do look similar.
Any how, I'd like to offer my own "me too" in support of the recent changes on this board. When I first started using it, I found it very clunky compared to the Pinnacle website. Now, however, I rarely visit Pinnacle because I find, for my tastes, that VV30 as an editing package offers me so much more. Further, I generally find great answers/solutions to most of the problems I've encountered with Vegas products already posted on this BBS, and, when I've posted my own questions, great answers usually come within hours if not a couple of days.
Additionally, if you follow most threads here, they tend to lead from a statement of a problem, then, lead one message at a time to a solution.
If you check some of the other video boards, you'll find some that contain a preponderence of problems stated and restated in frustration because the solution never seems to come . . . is it a difference in the software, the BBS, the posters, the staff, or a combination of all these factors?
I dunno, but, I'm here to tell you, I'm glad I stumbled onto VegasVideo, and I really appreciate this forum.
Sorry to all for wandering a bit. I know this thread is about the forum layout . . . but, I couldn't help myself.
Thanks WVG (yawn)...now beat it. Next time I want my kitchen repainted I'll call ya.
So, back to the tasks at hand:
ANY response SF to any of the questions which ACTUALLY PERTAIN TO WE THE BUYING CUSTOMERS of your products?
1. What is the problem with creating seaprate forums for Vegas Video and Vegas Audio?
It could be taken care of in under 15 minutes.
What don't you get as for the relevancy of these separate forums?
2. are projects setup for 44.1\24-bit with the .26 delta 1010 driver in XP and win98se actually recording files that are 24-bit (real 24-bit files) using Vegas video 3.0 and Vegas Audio 2.0h
Or are they really 16-bit files with extra garbage bits?
I want this confirmed - leave nothing out please?
3. why the hell am I getting only left side audio playback with my 24-bit MONO files in sf 5.0e?
Stereo file playback is fine.
**mono file playback is working fine with Vegas audio 2.0h....but NOT with SF5.0e (plays out left speaker only with mono 24-bit\44.1 files).
this is my audio editor..and it should damn well be able to handle the basics (playing a mono file correctly). Need an answer asap!
This is so far unnacceptable, it's not even funny.
** everything is setup properly - Not new to setting up DAWS. Far from new.
PIII 1ghz
win XP and Win98se OS
512mb ram
2 delta 1010 with driver (XP= .26 wdm driver | Win98se = 4.1.22.27 driver).
No conflcits.
Joe, if you would have bothered to read some of my other posts you would have noticed I enjoy slapping around idiots. You qualifed with the half ass remarks you made. Not only am I a paying customer for Vegas Video, I also own Video Factory and Sound Forge. So I'll comment all I want. You want answers ASAP, then RTFM. You do know how to read don't you Joe?
I think I've got this problem fixed now. Once you've gotten deep into a thread, click the "Back to Vegas Family" link and it should take you back to the page you were on rather than the page with the most recent posts.
Joe,
Sorry for using the Vegas forum to discuss the forum itself, but I do appreciate the feedback you've all provided. The reason for my participation in this particular thread is that I'm the web producer in charge of sonicfoundry.com. While I do use sofo software, I am much less qualified to help with technical problems than our support reps.
I've forwarded your email on to our support department, and they should be in touch with you soon.
