Whoo HOOO!

-------------------- QUOTE ----------------
That wasn’t quite the case with the Video Factory software I got from Sonic Foundry. I’ve used their audio software (Acid Pro. 4.0 and Sound Forge). It’s great stuff and works very well, so I thought I’d try out the inexpensive Video Factory with an eye toward upgrading to their very sophisticated Vegas Video 4.

But the Video Factory didn’t work right. The MPEG encoder/decoder just plain wouldn’t work. With the usual sinking feeling, I called customer support expecting to spend an hour on hold. Instead, after three rings I got a friendly, efficient woman who solved my problems (I needed to download and install a free upgrade, which fixed everything).

Then I installed an IEEE 1394 “Firewire” card in my laptop. Windows XP recognized it, installed the right drivers, and — after I defragmented my hard drive, whose highly fragmented state was causing dropped frames — it seamlessly captured video from my video camera and imported it into Video Factory, where it ran properly the first time. And — though this is partly because of my familiarity with other Sonic Foundry products — I’ve managed to edit the video and add titles, effects, and additional sound without ever cracking the manual.
