GPEG2 GPU-accelerated MPEG2 codec

Just ran across this:

"The GPEG2 video codec is a real-time MPEG-2 encoder and decoder that harnesses the computing power of graphic processors (GPU's) available today. It accelerates video and image encoding to encode at incredible frame rates.

GPEG2 video codec is a video compressor / decompressor that registers into the Windows® multimedia drivers and integrates with any application using DirectShow (Virtual Dub, Adobe Premiere, etc). Existing video players, such as Windows® Media Player® , Media Player Classic can use this codec to play MPEG-2 streams."

$40 not bad if it does what it says, although I am a bit confused about the video card compatibility. It lists some specific cards and then says it is compatible with "All GPU's from Nvidia or AMD/ATI are compatible with the GPEG2 codec, if they accept pixel shader model 3.0. "

This would have been dandy 4 years ago. I don't do much mpeg2 any more. And modern machines 9i7s/quadcores) don't really need the GPU for reading mpeg2 files. They are more than fast enough to deliver those rates.

Now if this was mpeg4 acceleration, I'd be taking out the Visa card.

Sounds interesting - but can it be used to decode into Vegas and encode (render) out of Vegas?

Could use it for mpeg2 - and right: even more interesting for AVCHD.
