GPU acceleration no longer available

Maverick wrote on 11/2/2012, 1:11 PM
I reported a few days ago that GPU acceleration was available in VP12 b367 after an AMD Catalyst update to version 12.10.

I noticed today that it was no longer available (just Off in the Preferences box). I never made any changes to the graphics settings.

Just installed b 394 and it's still showing as off.

Does anyone have any idea what may have caused it to change?

Cheers.

Edit: I did make one change which was from the Standard Colour to Theater colour setting. Can't see that making a difference to GPU use.

Ditto. My video card went out yesterday and I installed an Nvidia Quadro card that is on the list of cards that support GPU Acceleration. However, my card does not show up in the Preference drop down list; the only item in the list is "OFF".

I'm just about to update.

Just to repeat this: No Card Available in the Drop-down? Correct?

For me, no. But there was a few days ago. The GPU option was lost before the update to 394!

I have even changed the colour mode back to Standard - just in case - and rebooted.

Forum Member Kimberly has done a large amount of investigation about triggers for the GPU coming and going - the following is listed from one of her posts in many many threads - YOU may want to contact her.......

Here is what I found with my nVidia and VP 12.
I went into the nVidia control panel and set Program Settings as shown in .... that I posted. That enabled me to launch VP 12. Then in VP 12 I set the GPU to on when I wanted to use NewBlue, and I set GPU to off when I wasn't using NewBlue. For me VP 12 renders much faster with GPU off, but of course that's only if there is no NewBlue.

Some users have posted that VP 12 went from good to bad when they updated to the latest nVidia driver. So don't automatically assume you must update your driver in this case.

B394 installed - clean install - and my GPU card is listed and selectable. Selected and restarted Vegas and it is still there.

No issues here.

@Maverick I am going to take a wild swing. Try removing your ATI drivers via AMD Install Manager.

Reboot computer. Before installing the ATI driver try launching Vegas. Then close out Vegas and install the driver. Reboot and then open Vegas again.

OK, I'm good. I downloaded and installed Vegas v 394 and downloaded and installed the latest video card drivers. A few restarts later and my video card shows up in the Preference list.

Thanks all.

Uninstalled Vegas Pro 12, according to Forum Admin. and reinstalled VP 12 to the latest Update/build 394, using AMD Beta driver 12.11 and GPU is on by default in preferences and is working fine now and was before update. (by the way with the new AMD Beta driver I have knocked off 12 seconds on John Clines Rendertest 2010 by completeing the test in 20 seconds and remains stable for me)
