GPU RAM demand and NVENC rendering

With the new VP15 NVENC rendering, I have faced new problem while rendering: GPU RAM demand. While rendering 4K files using some FX plugins, the GPU card memory (GTX 960 2GB) was filled quickly and then the system started to show errors like color shifting in preview window, black frame etc. Rendering the project into 1080p didn't show any problem.

It looks like with the new NVENC support, one needs at least 4GB GPU RAM.

So, system requirements should be updated for 4K rendering in VP15. Also, I would love to see how the GPU model effect NVENC rendering speed: is Nvidia GTX 1060 slower or similar to GTX 1070 / 1080? How is it compared to GTX 970 / 980?

I noticed about a 3 second difference (using same source clip) between a PC gtx 1080 and a laptop gtx 1070 i.e. 8s vs 11s, not the same as using a 1080 & a 1070 in the same machine, but may be indicative of what to expect
