GPU setup

Im making good progress with Movie Studio on my old PC and Dual monitors but The machine struggles with big projects so Im going to rebuild on an x79 board with a 3820 chip.

Initially I was planning getting a 2 gig GPU like GTX 570 or HD 7850

But what if I ran 2 cheaper GPUs. Would there be any benefit would or I loose the possibility of GOU rendering?

As long as they are recent GPUs, you should be fine. Don't look for too much acceleration. Most don't report speed up of much greater than 10-15% for rendering (not for real time preview). The NVidia site has a list of the number of CUDA cores. You may also wish to stay away from VERY recent GPUs that were released post-the current version of Movie Studio. There are reports on the forum where very GPUs don't appear to be supported. I have a GTX650Ti that works well with VMS12. Also do a search in this forum. I believe that MSmart was going to go with a new processor and iGPU based on advice from the pro forum.So, you may not have to buy a GPU at all in your new build.

iGPU would allow me to stagger my spending although I always worried that it would drain CPU power.

Turns out the x79 CPUs dont carry integrated GPU

The logic was x79 with a 3820 would allow more memory and faster memory without OC. The X79 is perhaps more upgradable when I want a new chip in 5 years time

Z77 or Z87 would give me better value MOBO and a 3770k is an equivalent CPU with inbuilt GPU and a stock cooler which the x79 doesn't have.

For video editing, the rate limiter is usually processor - not memory. At this point, I don't think there are much gains to be had with more RAM either.
