short answer - yes.

unfortunately grazie i can't remember which it was. however i distinctly remember there being super'ed info as to bitrate on screen along with other file details.

maybe someone who has a functioning memory will come to your rescue ;-(

OK . ..

And this is why it is always good to check.

Using Vegas Burn DVD I got this:

10.75mbs Spike:

8.24mbs Spike:

I did this to find out just why a Laptop DVD player was icky/sticky; my PC DVD Player was "fine" and my STB was acceptable.

Moral of Story? Be aware of the rate that the Vegas DVD Burn tool is achieving.

Now I have the physics nailed, I can be more confident.

Hope this helps somebody.

Also the AVG is 3.2mbs above the easy running DVD. I suppose that that would be a major contributor to this. Yes?

Interesting . . .

I'd be more worried about the difference between the minimum and maximum bitrate. The one time I've had a playability problem it as the very rapid change in bitrate that caused the problem, upping the minimum bitrate fixed the problem.

I used a different analyser to locate that problem but I can neither find it or even remember the name. It gave plots of both the bitrate and the Q value (image quality).

Bob, maybe you're thinking of the "TecoLTD Bitrate Viewer"? It does exactly what you describe. Unfortunately, it is no longer available and Windows 7-64 will not run the version I have from 2003.

That too.

Thanks John, I think you are right.
It was a long time ago, I used to run it on my Win2K system.

Not exactly.
After much reading the penny dropped, it's a much later version.
