Graphics card and improvements

Hi All. Hope you can help. I am a newbie to editing and have basic knowledge of PC's.

I am using Vegas 16 Pro. When adding stabelization to a clip my computer wont preview it and crashes. Seems like the graphics card. I am running a basic HP office type PC on Windows 10.

Intel Core i3-6100

4gb memory

On board Intel HD530 graphics.

Its taking 40 minutes to render an 8 minute clip. I have managed to stabilize a 4 minute clip and render it but anything inside a bigger movie just wont work.

I don't need a really fast system but would like it to work.

What would you guys suggest as a budget upgrade to get reasonable improvement.

Thanks very much for your help.

@mike-t - Eh? Time for a long hard look at what you’re wanting out of your kit for the purposes of creating video. How effective is an i3 using Windows 10?

😃 I thought someone would say that. The i3 is fine for basic business processing. No problems at all. I have produced some reasonable movies with VP16 but its only holiday stuff so nothing professional. Are you saying an upgrade to graphics card and possibly memory would not be worthwhile.

Should I really upgrade to a new computer? what would be an entry spec?

Thanks

@mike-t ... following on from Grazie's comment, the following is one of the minimum specs for VP17:

Processor: 6th Generation Intel Core i5 (or AMD equivalent) or better. 2.5 Ghz and 4 Core minimum. For 4k, 7th Generation Intel Core i7 (or AMD equivalent) or better. 3.0 Ghz and 8 Core minimum

Without definitely knowing, I wouldn't imagine that the minimum requirements for VP16 would be very much different to VP17.

While i3-6100 is 6th gen, the minimum for HD is an i5. If you're using 4K on an i3 6G, then that would be like expecting a Datsun 120Y to do 0-100 kph in 7 seconds.

If you are looking to upgrade your computer, then decide your budget and then look at what is available for bets-bang-for-buck in your country in your price range from mass market companies like Dell, HP, Lenova etc.

Cameras: Sony FDR-AX100E; GoPro Hero 11 Black Creator Edition

Installed: Vegas Pro 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 & 22, HitFilm Pro 2021.3, DaVinci Resolve Studio 20, BCC 2025, Mocha Pro 2025.0, NBFX TotalFX 7, Neat NR, DVD Architect 6.0, MAGIX Travel Maps, Sound Forge Pro 16, SpectraLayers Pro 11, iZotope RX11 Advanced and many other iZ plugins, Vegasaur 4.0

Dell Alienware Aurora 11:

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER 8GB GDDR6 - liquid cooled

64GB RAM - Dual Channel HyperX FURY DDR4 XMP at 3200MHz

C drive: 2TB Samsung 990 PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 PCIe SSD

@mike-t - Trying to find the balance between Budget and Outcome is real tricky. Difficult to justify expenditure when there’s no money coming back. However, can you place a price on the pleasure you’re getting from Film making? It’s your call. I’m sure there’ll be others willing to chip in.

Thanks everyone, you have made it clear. I need a new PC and will start looking.
