Graphics card compatibility & upgrade from Vegas Pro 9

I suspect my situation is common, but I wasn't having much luck googling or searching the forums here. I suspect if someone's talked about this, it's been buried.

I've been using Vegas Pro 9 for about ten years now and this is the first time I've been seriously considering upgrading (the price tag is a bit high and 9's been working pretty well for me... for the most part).

However, though 9 works great on my laptop (which isn't a shabby computer despite being a laptop - do get a lot of lag in preview rendering though), it's having some serious issues on the desktop I built last fall. Flickering, crashing (crashing without "this application has stopped working message" too - just... noping out), won't render visual layers sometimes, especially if they come from external images. It's nigh unusable. These are problems I have never had on the numerous less powerful machines I've used Vegas on in the past.

Which leads me to my questions, if anyone happens to know something.
- I saw some mentions that Vegas has issues with Radeon RX 5700XT cards/drivers? Is this a case where trying to update my graphics card drivers might help or is this a Vegas problem that traces back far enough to affect versions as old as mine? Because that seems like the most likely cause of my woes, but I could be wrong.
- Does Radeon RX 5700 compatibility remain an issue in newer VEGAS releases? In other words, would I be dropping a few hundred only to have the same problem? I know someone with an extra slot in her copy of VEGAS 14 Edit I think, though again, if 14 also has this issue then it still won't work on my desktop.
- This is a question I will direct to the sales team in the next week or so, but I am also wondering if I qualify for the "upgrade" rate for VEGAS 18 (latest as of post) given that 9 is the latest prior version I have. It's a question I'm sure has been asked a million times before, but discussion of it seems to be buried under many threads about updating between newer versions.

Build specs should be in my signature, but if not let me know so I can add them here.

Thank you!

You must get the trial version of V18 before buying to see if it works on your system. It is much more demanding than previous versions. Your CPU is much more powerful than mine but I am running V18 fine (i do have a good graphics card 1080Ti and I'm using 4K Sony XAVCS media).

No need to do that if you have the old register number of Version 9.
You fill-in that number and you see the upgrade price needed for the later version you want to. Look here how to upgrade to VPro Edit and see also there howto download the trial for 30 days for free @andyrpsmith meant
