Very little difference. Vegas doesn't take advantage of OGL rendering tools, most NLE's don't. Video ram helps screen draws/graphics, but that's about it. Save the money saved from an expensive video card made for gaming, and spend it on RAM.

What about in something like Boris Red 3GL?

Is that affected or is it only putting graphics on the screen that it effects.
Might be what you said here "Video ram helps screen draws/graphics, but that's about it."

Boris Red exploits some features that are only found in certain graphic cards but you don't absolutely need a certain card to run Boris, but will run faster with GL support.

It won't render faster however, just preview faster. I'd recomend the ATI 9600 serires. It cheap & supports the latest versions of DirectX & OpenGL. The ATI cards below it don't support the newest stuff, & the ones above it cost quite a bit. :)

ahh but the ones above it came standard on my notebook, so you see, what can be done eh?
