Grazie Goes Broadband! Something for the Chienworks' Site

Grazie wrote on 12/20/2002, 10:40 AM
Chienworks, what's the best format you're wanting? I'm working in VV now. Want to get something of the best quality to you. I've NOW been able to view our friends' work, and I especially like the quality that Paul Homes has achieved. Any ideas how he did it?

Phew.... so much to do still.....

Grazie

Grazie,
Anxious to see your stuff with that new cammy and VV. I'm sure if your file size is under the 25MGB that Kelly's site recommends, you could use as high a quality as you want. Although, remember that some of the folks don't have broadband. I think that's why he suggests we render at 256K. With your camera, 256K should look great. As we all know, everything stems from the source clips. By the way, I've been taking the VV tutorials since receiving it a couple of days ago and am getting more excited with each session about the capability. Looking forward to seeing your shows.
Aloha,
Randy

Randy, I'm reallllllyyy pleased for you - I MEAN IT! - What with the "rumours" 'bout VV et al, having VV on my laptop is all I've wanted to have! Now with this ADSL, my world's my lobster - yeah? Would I have bought VV if the rumours came earlier? Knowing me I would have dithered too long! I'm just know realising the many and varied options that are before me.... I must be organised and apply some of my "potter's" centre & focus on what to do next......

Yer know what? Now I don't care how long I'm on the Internet.... I can just respond to all the messages I chat away with - you guys are still my favourites - yes?

Okay - calm down grazie! - Wellllll . . . the bestest thing I like - so far with VV - is its almost Zen approach to organising stuff - yeah? I mean, just a plain simple "drawing" pad to throw your ideas on! great! . .. . . then there is all that functionality.

Okay what I've got is some very recent footage I did with the XM2, covering the impending destruction of the World Famous Wembley Stadium -THE place of worship for all soccer fans - Pele, "Wembley, IS the Church of Football!" - OR as it is known as the "Venue of Ledgends!" Ask any Soccer fan, around the World, they will know and a little tear comes into their eyes when you mention Wembley Stadium...... . . Anyway my clip is very small - I could and may work on it more fully as time passes but I think I own it to myself and you guys 'n Gals to get something up on Chienworks site PDQ - yes?

Randy . . . are these the tuts on the VV SoFo site? They are pretty basic - I was wanting more on Motion thingys etc etc..... I've downloaded some of the .veg files from the Cow [is that right?] and I am ploughing my way through them. Okay I should post this lot on the VV forum . . . oh yes - I take yer pint 'bout the the need to be considerate of non-DSL connections - will co!

If I had a tail, I'd have already wagged it off . . . . . .

Speak soon....

A Very, VERY Happy . . .

Grazie

Grazie: wooooo! Looking forward to it :)

Most people are using the WMV 256K template. Choose custom and move the quality slider all the way to the right for it's highest setting. There's some debate as to whether two-pass encoding is really helping in the current version of the encoder or not. I think it's a tad better, but the files are significantly larger. This is rather odd as a two-pass file will be variable bit rate and should be smaller. But anyway, i digress.

If your file is short enough, you can consider encoding to a higher bitrate. If it's under a minute, go for 512K. If it's under 30 seconds then 1Mbps will probably be ok. Obviously higher rates will give better quality images.

One other problem i've noticed with the current WMV encoder is that it seems to mute the colors quite a bit. I usually add the HSL filter and increase the Saturation to 1.25 when encoding to WMV. The preview window will look like it's bleeding color at this setting, but the WMV output looks rather more normal. Without the filter, WMV output looks very gray. I'm sure this is very subjective; you'll have to try your own experiments to see what you're happy with.

Now, go render and upload!

Grazie,

Laughed at that image...tail-less Grazie. We have two miniature weiner dogs that helps me visualize.

Yes, just the basic tutorials from SoFo right now. Will take the Cow tute's soon after. I've decided to go slow and really absorb the techniques. Plan is to go back and re-edit one of my shows using what I've learned.

Standing by for your show. Will it make us all weep for Wimbley?

WIMBLEY .... WIMBley! Nah mate! It's WEmbley . . . . must 'ave been a typo - I hope!

Weep - ooooh just a bit! But then, it's been about since 1923! The poor old lady was well beyond her sell by date. The new one has been designed by Sir Norman Foster - same chap who's put a design in for the NY scheme - yes?

I'll get on with the rendering . .. . still trying to "digest" Chienworks instructions - I'll get there - anyway, what's going up will be only "rushes" and a little bit of motion stuff - no text yet - toooooo excited . . .

Grazie

ps: A WEINER - A WEINER! Gadzooks . . .
