Grazie Goes Vegas!

Okay Guys 'n Gals, if UPS get it correct and deliver it to me today I should have Vegas Video in my hands in the next 8 hours [now 7:00am GMT Friday 13th - Oooer! Friday 13th - do you think I should be installing it today?].

What I need are some "MUST-do's" and "MUST not's" prior to installing it. Any ideas?

I've cut my teeth on Video Factory and also want to know if I leave VF on the system or will it create problems? Do I need to remove it? I hope not - as at least it is stable - yes?

I've got a Canon XM2 PAL=UK [US=GL2]. I've read on the Vegas KB that Canons hold the BUS and can create a problem. Any feedback on that? I will add that I tested the capture procedure in VF while I was in the camcorder shop - it work. I've also Captured with VF at home now - no problems. Does Vegas have a particular issue with a Canon cammy?

Best regards

Grazie

Does this mean you'll be hanging out on the VV board now? Life will become awfully dull!

I believe you can have VF and VV on the same system. I had VF and VV demo on the same system.

Can't coment on the Canon.

Is this an early christmas pressie? Can I have one too?

"Life will become awfully dull!" - Mike, that's one of the nicest things someone has said to me - THANK YOU!

Yes they are serious and YES I know I will get a lot of support - maybe I'll find my option for humour here? Waddya fink peeps?

Mikey - Yer'know if you have been naughty or nice! Santa also needs to be told these things. - Personally, I think you should get a copy just for the nice thing you said 'bout me......

Grazie: woooooooo! Congrats :)

I think the only two things that confused me when i switched from VideoFactory to Vegas were 1) no predefined tracks. It confused the heck out of me to see a blank screen without two video tracks and three audio tracks already there. It probably only took me about a minute to get over it though; just add your own tracks ... as many as you need! 2) in the effects screens the Start and End buttons are gone. However, they're replaced by vastly more powerful keyframes.

Other than that, the transition went swimmingly well. Both programs can live happily together on the same computer, and Vegas even opens up VF projects.

Enjoy!

Thanks Chienworks for the tip on the minimalist approach on dropping in clips... Zen or what!

No "Start" and "End" Button - I've never known when to "start" or come to that, "End"... I just go on and on and o n a n d .. . .. . on ..... ;)

OOOoooh can't wait!

I've tried the Vegas demo (still haven't made the plunge yet). Without reading the manual, I could do almost everything. However, there were a few things I had to read the manual to figure out.

1) Creating masks. Once you figure it out, you can do some really amazing things without resorting to a chroma key. (Look for the arrow pointing up next to the video track).

2) In VF, at the bottom of the track FX screens, there are little transport buttons (Play, Stop) so you can preview your changes. In Vegas, those buttons are missing (what?!) so you have to move the track FX window to the side and use the timeline controls. This is the one thing in Vegas that really bugs me. Maybe I'm missing something?

3) Audio busses. I still don't get this one (I'm not really heavy into audio).

I'm about to take the plunge myself. I haven't really mastered VF yet, but I know i'm going to VV so I may as well start the learning curve now;) Sounds like you went for the boxed version. I'm debating whether to go that route or just DL. I'm assuming if I DL I don't get sample content, or am I mistaken? Given the more powerful features in VV I can see myself actually want to spend some time with the tutorials and samples.

"if I DL I don't get sample content"

I believe that you are asked when ordering via a DL, if you want the content CD shipped to you free of charge in the continental U.S.
