Green stripe on mp4 - suggestions?

Duncan H wrote on 5/20/2012, 8:08 PM
Apologies if this has been previously discussed.

I am running version 683 (64bit) Vegas Pro 11 and now when I encode to an mp4 using the Mainconcept mp4 (480p widescreen) template, my videos (filmed in HD) consistently have a very odd bright green stripe down the RHS.

If I use Handbrake, no green stripe.

If I render to wmv or mainconcept mpeg2 = no green stripe

Happy to post screenshots, but I think the above is pretty clear. Is this a known issue and are others having the same problem or is this my specialty?

Thanks in anticipation.

Duncan

Have never seen this problem Duncan.

Posting the system specs in your profile might give some of us a good start...

Some sort of registration issue ? But I don't think I've needed to explicitly register Maniconcept or been prompted to ....

Apologies Tom, I hadn't checked the box to make settings visible.

Here are some screenshots to demonstrate, very curious. As I indicated, this green stripe is there every time I render to mpg4 using Mainsconcept codec.

I've had this happen to me with certain resolutions.. I think it went away if I didn't use GPU assist. There are so many issues with the MC mp4 encoder I gave up and use the sony one or handbrake.

I submitted a ticket on it some time ago, no help other than don't use GPU.

Thanks Rocky.

Turned off GPU assist & restarted, but made no difference. However, you are correct that this is only evident at certain resolutions.

I just tried Mainconcept mp4 encoding of 360p template = no problem. Similarly, 720p template = no problem, but 480p template = green stripe every time.

Goodness knows, but at least I can encode using Handbrake or 720p, which is more frequent for me than 480p.

Weird & utterly consistent.

Duncan,

I get it too. It's consistent, and I've asked here before but got no solution (or cause).

You are not alone.

Duncan,

I duplicated the problem, but it appears to go away if I use 'CPU only' render.

In my case, at least, it appears to be a GPU thing.

Can you please post exactly what is the input clip spec?
Did you make any changes to the MC MP4 Internet WS 480p template?
What nVidia driver are you using?

Hi Tom,

This is quite bizarre. Using your advice, I sought to render using the MC 480p template and selected "CPU only", rendered fine, no green stripe. Also , as previously advised, no green stripe on 360p or 720p templates (used "as is"). The green stripe is only evident using MC mp4 480p template, with GPU enabled, but when used, entirely reproducable.

Note to self - avoid MC mpg4 480p template.

I checked my Nvidia driver = 285.62 (I'm not a "computer techie", so driver is as the laptop arrived in late 2011) and since I am not hugely reliant on Vegas for a living and can manage around crashes), I'm unlikely to update, until I do my next major C: reformat.

I thank you and others above for your interest and response to my observation, which I still find curious to say the least.

Sorry Tom,

Input clip is PAL HD 1920 X 1080 50i from a Canon vixia, recorded to SD.

I used MC mpg 4 template 480p "as is" and then looked at settings and it indicated it was NTSC , so I changed that to PAL, same result regardless. In my case,(as you indicated) this issue is absolutely related to involving GPU enabled rendering using this template

Duncan

Duncan,

If all else works, I wouldn't bother with an nVidia driver update. I am on 296.10 and see the same thing you do, even though I was using NTSC clips.

I had the same problem. Went in to custom size settings and changed size from 854 to 848 x 480 and stripe went away. For me it works.

Hi Town,

You are absolutely correct. If I only make the change within the MC mpg4 template from 854 X 480 to 848X480 it renders perfectly.

Similarly, thanks to Tom for the observation this only occurs (using the default template) if GPU encoding is implemented.

Thank you very much for this advice, I shall implement immediately. Looks like something that should be fixed.

Great support and thanks to all.

I'm having the same problem with an Nvidia GT-440 card, the latest (version 301.42) using Win7 64bit and Vegas 11 at build 683. Fails with the factory 480p template.

Get a thin green stripe at the RIGHT side of the image for the entire rendered .mp4 file.

I've seen the green stripe on the right hand side when I use 480 p resolution and the MC mp4 codec.
