Grob and Others! Maybe just Maybe PTT Success!

HIyah - Wellll . . .

"One Swallow Doesn't Make A Summer"

I just repeated the successful experiment I carried out when I visited the Video Forum here in London.

This required me taking my cammy and my laptop. No firewires etc etc. Just the plain vanilla Inspiron - yeah?

I repeated the to the T the experiment. Okay fine! BUT I had the Inspy "Undocked" from the docking station. BIG DIFFERENCE!! I can't just pull in a file and expect it to PTT - no. I have to re-render - I used my VF for this - okay?

I started with rendereing 2 then 4 then 8 second clips - looking good! This is all on the C: drive - yeah?

Okay the acid test: I then connected the firewire drives, all daiseyed-up. I then rendered the same file ALL of it, 9 mins - NO B/S!!! Where previously at least 4 at the beginning 2 in the middle and 4 at the end of the file.

It appears that the Docking station is interrupting something. No Docking Station no B/S.

Look, I've not yet tested this to distruction but it would appear that Dell Docking station is mixing it with the DV flow through the firewire.

Please give this a try! If you have a docking station try it without - ie undocked!

Now it maybe an electro-mechanical - viz heating v cooling, I still use FanGui - Don't forget the two fans blow out against the "bump" of the DS - it's/they're in very close proximity OR it maybe a combination of all the hubs and stuff plugged into the usb ect etc - this are connected to the docking station, but I think I tested this previously.

So please give it a whirl . . . .

The other thing, our colleague who does have an Inspiron and who does have success, maybe he could read this and inform us if he uses a docking station - yeah?

Maybe just maybe

Grazie . . . . . .

I have no docking station and had no idea you had one. That certainly explains that.

Grazie, ditto pdmath. I'm working stand-alone Inspiron w/ external "E" video drive. I envy your success, and hope it holds true. Grob

You know what - "Swallows Suck!" . . . .

Arrgghhh . . . Grob - Stop envying me . . back to the drawing board . . .however there are a few more sketches in place now.

Calm down Grazie - However, I am discovering, is that make fresh projects for render from - IN VF - gives me greater success.

I'm starting to get a menu of "must-do's"

Grazie,

I hope you've cracked it!
I don't use by Dell (Latitude C600) in a docking station when editing.
