Group function - doesn't work!

DDCCD wrote on 2/12/2010, 9:05 AM
I am highlighting the audio and video and then right-clicking... and "create a new group."

then I do a cross fade on the audio, and the video does not follow along.

Or I try to extend the length of both, but only one is affected.

Then I try control U. (group / ungroup) No difference.

About half the time, I am able to get video and audio to move drag along timeline together, but very often, I use group functions and still only audio moves, etc.

Additionally, I am having trouble selecting of a portion of audio only (again, I am playing with group options. with no results).

What happens, is that wherever in the timeline that I select, it is automatically selecting ALL audio and video in that part of timeline.

PLEASE.... I need some help. :)

There is an icon at the top of the screen which I think looks like a padlock. It lets you "Ignore Event Grouping" or something like that. (I'm not at a computer with Vegas right now.)

Toggle it "On" and existing groups *act* like they are not grouped (but they still are). Toggle it "Off" and groups start behaving like groups again.

Thanks Tim.

Found that button. But still (toggled either way... and "RE-grouping" two highlighted tracks), I cannot get a envelope or fade to affect BOTH audio and video at same time.

BTW, video is on "video overlay" track , and audio is on "voice" track. I dragged the video into Vegas from a folder on desktop. In case any of that has any bearing.

Look at the top of your screen at the icons and find the 'Auto-Ripple.' (Ctrl + L). Be sure to turn it off and life should be better. Let us know. Cin

The names of the video and audio tracks have no bearing at all -- just there to help beginners. With video tracks, the top track is seen first, then if they are any transparencies in that track (or it doesn't fill the screen) then the next lower track shows, etc. But apart from the stacking order all video tracks have the same features and capabilities.

Grouping will not automatically fade both the audio and the video at the same time -- you have to do that individually for each event. Grouping will just assist with moving them left or right -- grouped items will move left or right as one big item, and maintain their relative positions to each item in the group.
