Grouping events

I often want to edit at an earlier time point on a production. Is there an easy way to tie all the tracks together past that point so that when I move to add space or to overlap a prior event, everything to the right moves as a unit? Right now, each and every time I do it, I have to Ctrl click an event on each track, and then do a Select Events to End before I can move things. What gets real difficult is tying in the tracks with sporadic events, such as the overlay track which has titles scattered here and there.

Place the cursor where you want it and then select Insert / Time.

Inserting time is one of those things that always screws up my edits, for some reason. On my machine, it doesn't insert the same time on all my tracks, and I end up with some tracks out of sync! (Does that happen to anyone else?)

You might try using the grouping tool to lasso a whole bunch of clips rather than clicking on each clip individually.

Under Edit, choose Selection Tool and then Grouping Tool. (I think that's what it's called. I suppose I should answer these things from home, where I'd have the program in front of me...)

Another thing to try is to select the leftmost item on the track, right click and choose "Select to End", but this only works for a single track.

Another trick for selecting everything on multiple tracks:
Select the upper leftmost item that you want to select.
The scroll to the end and shift-click on the lower rightmost item. Everything in between those to clips (including all tracks) will be selected.
Type "G" to make all selected items into a group and you can then move them.

Tedious, but it works. I've become pretty good at it after much practice.

Grisetti, I can't find a Grouping Tool within Edit and subcategories. Any more help on that? Also, I never found the use for Envelope Edit. Is that what you mean to use to group?

Sorry, hb. I was writing from memory instead of actually sitting in front of the program.

Under Edit, select Tool and then select Selection Edit Tool. Unlike the Normal Edit Tool, which allows you to select or move a point or clip, the Selection Edit Tool forms a rectangular lasso when you drag it, selecting everything you drag across.

Hope that's clearer.
