If I follow you, the answer would seem to be to select all the events, make sure that the focus is on all of the tracks and press G. Pressing U will ungroup and, if I remember correctly, you can ungroup just one track if you want to by making sure the focus is on that one when you press U.

Ripple might be useful when you make your insertion.
