Guess what happened to me...

I've had 22 clips on the timeline that took me 4 days to trim, apply FX, colour correction etc. Then I did something real stupid. I deleted the folder containing the raw clips and I don't have the original tapes anymore. Don't ask. I opened Vegas and of course it's asking me to find the files. I went to the Recycle Bin but 13 of the clips were simply not there. I panicked and went on the net for an undelete utility and found one with a trial period. It undeleted the 13 clips but gave them new file names. I tried to preview them and recover them but it said I had to buy the full version. I was sweating and my ulcers were acting up and I paid $60 and got the full program. OK, I have all the clips back with new names but I can't match them up with the original clips. The media bin properties DON'T keep the dates, times and file sizes once they're off-line and it is the only way I could have match them up. Just before I re-edit all of them, maybe, just maybe, someone here knows a trick.

Next time, use this undelete utility. It's free:

PC Inspector

I don't have a solution as to solve the problem of where you are at this point.

John,

Looks like long days ahead to re-cut the clips. It would be nice if Vegas kept the original clip properties even if offline. Maybe next version. Best of the holidays to you.

I tried it on something like 10 files that it said was in good condition and each file restored would not import into Vegas. It said something about ether headers or file markers being incorrect.

Oh well..it *is* free.

Thanks for the link.

Actually Vegas does keep the original clip properties. It does for MediaPool and Timeline properties. I often work this way.

Maybe you just linked the wrong files with the MediaPool media.
