I can see H.261 &H.263 in VMS 7, but not H.264. On the other hand there's reference to AVC/AAC so I guess that's it? MainConcept and Lead Technologies both produce encoders, but they're more expensive than the upgrade to V7! You can get the upgrade info via Support / Software Upgrades at the top of this page. If you're feeling adventurous, have a look at x264 - it's a free H.264 library, but I haven't tried anything based on it.

VMS v7 indeed has MainConcept AVC/ACC which Sony says is the one to use for H.264. I tried it the other day to create a file for video ipod playback. Worked perfect.

Looks like VMS 6 is the only version available in Canada, and that VMS 7 is the equivalent product in the US right now. Looks like I am out of luck due to some licensing issue or something.

Oh well, I guess I should have ordered the US version. I was silly to think it would be the same here :p

Since this thread is here, can anyone who has rendered with h.264 tell me if the .avc files open in QuickTime by default or if a separate codec is required.

Thanks :)
