Good question. I would like to know too.

I tried to put H.264 elementary program stream content encoded with MainConcept's "Reference Encoder" (a separate product from MainConcept) and it crashes (divide by zero error) Vegas 8 Pro. This problems was reported to Sony.

it never crashed on me, just says that the stream isn't supported. Most of the were encoded by x264.

I've found to make these files more compatible with other editors if you create an AVCHD disk of the video and use it's multi-plexed .m2ts file container then Vegas can insert them into the timeline.

If I create a h264 video using the MainConcept encoder in the ulead software Vegas will not directly load these files. But after they are Multi-plexed into a .m2ts container (by creating either an avchd or Blu-Ray disk) then Vegas can read the m2ts file correctly.

thanks for your response, I'll try if it works - but I'ld prefer to be able to open mp4 (and mkv - but sure that won't be posible) directly from Vegas.
What program did you use to create the m2ts?

Ulead MovieFactory 6 Plus with the HD-Add-On pack (extra $20 dollars)

You can also render with Vegas 8 and the AVC-Encoder, using the AVCHD 5.1 templates (project must be a 5.1 project). This material can be reimported in Vegas.
