Half & Half: An Encode Question

How can I, without pan & crop, output exactly what I see in the preview window when what I see is half original and half fx laden?

I want to show my employee the difference in the footage he shot and edited and what can be done with color correction. Is there a way to outpu a rendered video that shows half and half just like we can see in the preview window?

I have a feeling the only way to do so is to do two tracks and use pan & crop for placement and have one track with fx and the other without. However, I would like to keep it simple and just output what is seen in the preview window. Can it be done?

I'm pretty sure duplicating the track and masking will be necessary. Try the cookie cutter instead of pan/crop; might be a tad simpler for you.

For my color correction clip on another topic, I used two tracks and the cookie cutter fx.

Thanks guys, cookie cutter it is then.

I will make a suggestion to Sony that they allow for us to do a half and half simply by leaving button pressed on the preview window and selecting a checkbox upon render (kind of like the checkbox for rendering only the selected media).

Sony

When you view this thread as part of my feature request, note that in your product selection drop down (for submitting a question) there is no selection for a 64 bit version of Vegas pro 9. So, the only option then is Vegas pro 9. If I select Vista 64 as my OS, it then tells me on the next page (after submitting my question) that Vegas pro 9 is not supported on vista 64.

You may want to update the choices or remove the disclaimer. Thanks.

There's an "easy" way of doing this using the Media Generator/Checkerboard/Split Screen event, with two tracks beneath, one with the effect, one without ...... but I can't remember how you set it up with compositing modes or whatever.
Couldn't find it in Help files either - maybe someobe who does know is out there .....

Simplest to me would seem to be:
Export a version WITH Color Correction & Effects.
Export a version WithOUT.
As I'm sure you have 2 separate projects.

Then bring them both back into a Timeline (one on top of the other) & apply a cookie cutter giving you the Split Screen showing half & half.
