Half-hour to render 1 minute mpeg2??

Just began experimenting with rendering to mpeg2.
I took a one-minute Mini DV clip and rendered it to mpeg2,
using the rendered downloaded from Sonic Foundry... it took
half an hour. That seems way excessive. Does it actually
take that long, or is something amiss here? (It takes far
less time to render to windows media format or Real G2
format...)
My system is a 500MHz Pentium III with 256 megs of RAM.

Does it REALLY take this long to render mpeg2?

The Mpeg plug-in is part of the Vegas 2.0e update, not a
separate download. You can also find it as a standalone on
the download/updates section on sonicfoundry.com.

Any response to my original question???
Is a half-hour to render one minute actually the kind of
performance one should expect?

It can take that long yes. Render speed depends, esp w/
MPEG, on a ton of factors, so its hard to predict how long
it will take-
