Half speed playback, not slomo.

Just made an amazing discovery, if you already know this you'll be wondering about my sanity but I sure as heck have never realised this until my 'student' asked me.

That little triangle under the replay slider can be moved to set the normal playback rate!!

This gent wanted to playback in VMS at half speed to make picking audio easier and danged if I could work out how to do this. I knew how to scrub and I know I can move the slider or use my edit controller but knew of no way to change the normal playback rate. Then he asks "What's the difference between moving the slider and moving the yellow triangle?". Well blow me down, never knew you can move that triangle! Again goes to show how teaching is a great way to learn.

You can move the triangle???!!!?

Vegas is full of surprises.

You'd have to look it up, but I think there's a also a modifier key that will make JKL playback work in smaller increments.

One reason I thought it significant was I recall someone having a problem with Vegas always playing back at half speed. Well if you slipped and moved that triangle that's what would happen.
If I recall correctly he fixed his problem by re-installing Vegas, yish!

it only affects playback rate, NOT render rate. I knew about this in vegas 3 but that's why I didn't use it much.

Ah. Good point. It's good to know how things break, so you can fix them later.

If you double-click the triangle it goes back to default.

If you hold down the 'k' key and press 'j' or 'l' Vegas will play back slowly backward/forward respectively. I think it starts at 25%. Pressing the 'j'/'k' keys again will increase the playback speed in (I think) 25% increments.

Very neat little feature, esp. because I often don't want to change my default playback speed, I just want to slow down/speed up for a particular event.
