HandBrake & Co.

I've just watched an excellent video (sorry can't remember by who without watching it again LOL but think it may have been produced by musicvid?) detailing a 'better' method of encoding videos for upload to YT. This 'better' method involved using HandBrake and Avid codecs. Excellent video by the way and I simply wanted to ask the following questions:

(1) Is the latest version of HB 0.98?
(2) Are the latest Avid LE codecs 2.3.4?
(3) Is this video, especially the settings used, still relevant as a result of subsequent updates to the above or are amendments necessary?
(4) For the LE codecs above, system requirements for PC are shown as W7 Professional. Will they work with the Home Premium edition?
(5) Previous forum advice has always been NOT to install codecs from unknown sources (or something along those lines). Can I take it that in the case of Avid this recommendation does not apply?

Thanks.

1. Latest Handbrake is 0.9.8, I have not tested it.
2. Latest Avid is 2.3.7, makes no difference wrt the tutorial.
3. Small changes in the UI, most people should be able to adapt. Be sure to have a constant frame rate.
4. Should work with any Windows OS.
5. Previous advice was to not install invasive third party codec "packs" that replace system codecs. That is not at all the same as adding codecs judiciously. Avid is the author of its own codecs, and not a third party bundler.

Thanks for that musicvid, however, the only link I can find for v2.3.7 is here http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/download/en423319?popup=true&NewLang=en&DocType=1450 and if I'm reading it correctly they are not standalone i.e.

Avid Codecs 2.3.7

Bundled with Media Composer 6, Symphony 6.0 and Newscutter 10

Could you kindly confirm this and advise whether there is a source simply for the codecs to use with Handbrake?

If you will just read beyond the first line, you will see there are two versions, one commercially bundled, and the other free for download.

"Codec Packages

Download the free Avid Codecs .
And they are not standalone. They are installed to be used by editing applications, such as Vegas.
Best of luck.
