Happy Thanksgiving!

Here's wishing you and yours a happy holiday. May you eat well, share the joys of companionship and have much thanks to give!

For this forum's international readers, Thanksgiving has always been my favorite U.S. holiday. It's the one holiday the marketers haven't yet found a way to completely commercialize. Any holiday built around a huge meal and family is O.K. with me!

Easily, the single greatest statement I have ever heard. :)

Happy Thanksgiving also. I'm hopeful that people outside the US have something to be thankful for, also!

Agree - that's a great sentiment re commercialization.. thanks for the thought, and best wishes to everyone here for a great Thanksgiving as well. I like watching the charlie brown thanksgiving special cartoon too.. :p

(though there are the silly 5am "marathon sales weekend" specials out there now... I'll pass... here at home w/family is great, instead of shopping...)

Best wishes all - I'm thankful to all of you who've helped me (especially Spot), and everyone else who's made this such a terrific community.

Regards,

Ken Calhoun

It's splendid. A great day for being outside.

(As long as I can keep pushing those nagging global warming worries out of my mind!)

Glad to see another Madisonian in the mix!

Not to be a party pooper, but have you forgotten about Black Friday?

I know BF isn't exactly commercializing Thanksgiving, but all the sale ads talk about the "post Thanksgiving Day" sales.

For those outside of US (I'm assuming non-US folks don't have BF), it is the day that has many crazy low prices urging everyone to get to the stores at 5am for all the deals. It's called Black Friday because it's traditionally the day that retailers get "out of the red" (aka debt) from sales.

Yeah, but at least Black Friday is AFTER Thanksgiving.

Speaking of Madison and Black Friday, the folks from Buy Nothing Day were giving out free hugs on State Street today (Madison's downtown shopping district).
