Hard Drive Failure & Vegas 9 Reinstall

Tomsde wrote on 8/11/2009, 4:44 AM
My hard disc recently took a dump and now I am reinstalling all my applications.

Should I reinstall Vegas Pro 9.0 or 9.0a? I've read a lot of people are having problems with 9.0 a--are the bug that it does fix significant enough to install that version? Or should I install 9.0 and wait for the next patch? Or even, should I just wait for the next patch to install Vegas Pro 9 and use another editor until that is released?

What would you guys do?

I don't know if it will effect you unless you are currently working on a project that you had backed up ...what the issue has been is that if you had text media throughout your project it reverted back to its original state. Most had all there text after the install say SAMPLE TEXT in there projects .. mine had 2:58 cause that was the template I had set up... for me it wasn't a big issue because I only had 6 text added but some had many and were not happy . Most of the fixes were needed and are better but this has been a huge problem. Good luck

9.0a fixed a great number of bugs reported in 9.0 and previous versions.
Find the list here 9.0a release notes

But 9.0a created at least 3 (maybe others have more) significant new problems discussed and demonstrated here:
Gen Media Two UNDO and Text reverts after Copy/Paste/UNDO and Rotation Blur
There is at least one other minor problem that SCS says exists in all versions but I have only found to exist in 9.0a. This problem has to do with a LOUD POP when two points on a Volume envelope are on the same 90 degree vertical. This problem was discussed here and demostrated here Loud POP. As I said, there may be other problems with 9.0a that I have not seen or just don't enter into my workflow. I work in SD so I can't speak about HD or AVCHD problems or advantages.

Personally, I'm sticking with 9.0a and avoiding problems by religiously doing incremental saves of my work, closing and reopening the project if I see any RED frames on the timeline, being very careful with UNDO operations, and working in smaller sections and then assembling with the use of nested veg files.
