Hard drive question

randyvild wrote on 12/31/2004, 12:22 AM
I have a 30 gigs left on my 120 gig drive and if i delete a clip lets say 1 gig then it goes up to 31. However, if i delete a HUGE video clip lets say 12 gigs it says this is too large for trash bin so i delete it directly off my hard drive but it does nothing to my availble 30 gigs left status. I highlight all my files in the hardrive and hit properties and it says 40 total gigs so I should have 80 available NOT 30. Please help I need to load two huge AVI videos.

Thanks,
Randy

Are you maybe running a Norton Utilities *"Protected"* Recycle bin?

You may need to rescan the hardware. Depending on where you're looking at the drive capacity, try properties/refresh, or tools/rescan hardware.

Glad to help! Good thing I was up at almost 4 AM. :)

I turned off this Protected Bin feature a *long* time ago. Nothing but trouble.

There are times when you can have files sent to the *protected* bin and you can't get rid of them. They do occupy drive space. I ended up having to re-do the partitions. Your symptoms sounded "very familiar."

Just clear the whole protected bin out, then disable it for *each* drive (each drive is set seperately).

Glad to have been able to help someone... :)
