What is the general consensus of hard drive manufacturers out there ?
I have a Maxtor 120GB that is showing signs of impending failure (backed UP !) & I am going to replace it (out of warranty - OEM).
Am looking at 230 or 300+ GB size drive.
Would appreciate multiple opinions.
I had problems with multiple IBM drives about a year ago - don't know whether they've fixed their vibration issues or not.
I've heard good things lately about Western Digital, but have no first hand experience.
Maxtor has been very reliable for me. I'm running a 3-HD system right now: 1 for OS, 1 for capture, 1 for rendering. When I prepare with DVDA, I write the files back to the capture drive. Each step reads from one drive and writes to a different drive. I have 4 IDE controllers on the MB and an extra IDE controller card so I use only the primary channel on each. My only bottleneck then is the PCI bus itself.
Yea, I've got one drive - seperate partition & physical drive - for capture & likewise for render.
I've also got an ext. USB2 120GB Max. for holding completed DVDA projects as well.
The other int. drive is a WD 230GB drive, which is about 1yr newer than the failing Maxtor.
What does every one think about Seagate ??
