IS the HDD corrput, or is it windows telling u the file system is screwy??

is it internal, external (SB or 1394)

ther are many variables. msot of teh tie, with windows, its teh MBR which is teh first to be corrupted...

as for data retrieval, "Getdataback for NTFS" is the best program ive come across. For large media files its the shixznit and im yet to find an app which is better...

Ive lost quite afew drives' MBR as windows nukes them coz its not very good with 1394, and this program has saved me copious amounts of time

Could you access the drive when it was installed internally? Can you access it now? Do you have more than one external drive enclosure?

Sometimes, moving the drive to another enclosure works.

If not, and the drive still spins, you could use a utility like "getdatabacknow" available for download on the net to retreive your files, copy them to a new drive, and then you can go ahead and reformat the offending drive.

Sometimes, if power is interrupted during read/write, a drive can become inaccessible to Windows.

Good luck.
