I'm setting up a new system and wonder what the best layout of Vegas/OS/record folder is. Do I want them all on the same drive, each on a different drive, or Vegas and record folder on the same drive, separate from the OS? This will be Vegas 6 under Vista.
Second question: I''ve used Vegas for audio tracking since its inception. It seems increasingly geared to video now, and I wonder if Sony is concentrating audio functionality in Acid. Anyone know if I would do better to switch programs at the next upgrade? TIA,

Generally, program software on the OS drive, audio files on a separate drive. (preferably a 7200 or faster SATA.) If editing video, many use another drive for those files.

Acid vs. Vegas for multi-track, Many still prefer Vegas.

I have no f---ing idea what our "friends" at Sony are concentrating on. It seems that Sony has completely abandoned audio development and audio workflow advancements in all programs, in fact many programs have less functionality than the previous. Ie. SF-8 & 9.

Too sad. I still like Vegas, but time marches on...,Anybody in particular look like the future of DAW programming?

Well I still use Vegas in preference to Acid for audio recording. It's still the best workflow for my audio-only stuff . And video does seem to be increasingly a requirement, so that's a bonus.

But yes the major audio enhancement do seem to be appearing in Acid, but IMO at the expense of the clean uncomplicated GUI of it's Vegas heritage. I suppopse you can't get added functionality from nowhere.

Oh, yeah -usual arrangement is OS and apps on C: drive, and a separate (physical) drive(s) for data.
