HardDrive - Slave or partishion ???

ok well this is the deal i have Vegas Audio 2.o and im multitrack recording and i hear it is better and safer to use a seperate hard drive to store the audio that you are recording on do i have to slave a whole seperate drive or would i get the same effect if i just partishion the 20 gig drive i have ???? please help ?

Slave a separate drive. Partitioning wont work nearly as well..

The idea is to have a separate mechanism holding the audio data and
to have it accessed on it's own connection. That way, if the software
needs to access anything from the windows directory at any point, it won't
be interfering with the data flow to/from your audio drive. If you just
partition one drive into two separate drive letters, you'll still be using
the same physical drive and you won't get that benefit.

But don't dispair. 40GB drives are selling for under $100 these days.
That's enough for over 22 hours of 96KHz/24bit stereo audio, or 66
hours of CD quality audio.
