Hardware capture card vs. OCHI1394

I have been editing for about 6 years now and I have been using premiere since ealier 4-ish version. I have also been using Pinnacle Systems capture cards since the DC10. I recently spoke with someone who is very into VV4 and at this point I have a question for anyone who is somewhat technically savvy....
Why would I want to chuck my $1000 Dc1000 mpeg-2 editing card in place of an OHCI1394 card to accomodate Vegas? It seems the software is very sophisticated, with better built in support than Premiere, but I cant understand losing the hardware accelerated compression of my capture card.

Please someone who understands the comparison of standard 1394 vs. hardware capture card please give me some insight to help me consider moving to this software. Email me if you could as I dont know when I will check this next: justindisrael@earthlink.net

Why not use both? Just install an OHCI card and use it with Vegas while using the other card where it helps?

Also, some specialty cards now have an OHCI driver available.

The 1394 Firewire card allows you to edit in DV. If your original source is a DV format, then you will get a lot better quality than an MPEG capture. But as Jetdv said, why not do both.

I think another valid question is why someone would want to keep editing in MPEG when 1394 is available for DV capture for a few dollars.

I suppose if your MPEG work is Hi-Def stuff then it would be worth it, but for regular TV resolution DV beats MPEG in almost all respects.
