Does anyone know if the Matrox cards can be used with Vegas, or do they only work with Premiere? And/or is there an alternative card that can be used with vegas for hardware compression.
That answers my question pretty succinctly. Thanks. I take it that means that they'll enable you to preview better quality in realtime but won't allow you to render quicker by utilising the GPU's capabilities.
Actually, in Vegas they don't make any difference for preview either, except in a few special cases of some external plugins like Magic Bullet that use the GPU. For everything else besides those few plugins you might as well stick with a $5 video card.
Axio cards are supposed to do some of their own stuff, lean on the GPU for other things, and use the CPU for the rest. In our experience with three of those systems they could really get bolloxed up on certain types of projects but if you're doing something short and being careful then they're quite fast.
They don't add any sort of value to Vegas in any way.
