Last I recall, they didn't have hardware compression, just hardware accel while editing. If you're using DV or HDV that's not needed in vegas.

That answers my question pretty succinctly. Thanks. I take it that means that they'll enable you to preview better quality in realtime but won't allow you to render quicker by utilising the GPU's capabilities.

Actually, in Vegas they don't make any difference for preview either, except in a few special cases of some external plugins like Magic Bullet that use the GPU. For everything else besides those few plugins you might as well stick with a $5 video card.

those matrox cards don't use the GPU at all, they have their own chips built in, so that normally isn't GPU dependant.

Axio cards are supposed to do some of their own stuff, lean on the GPU for other things, and use the CPU for the rest. In our experience with three of those systems they could really get bolloxed up on certain types of projects but if you're doing something short and being careful then they're quite fast.

They don't add any sort of value to Vegas in any way.
