Hardware Requirements for Movie Studio

OP3 wrote on 1/23/2020, 4:37 PM

I'm not the brightest when it comes down to this type of stuff so I'm hoping I can get some advice.... I've been running an older version of movie studio for years on an GigaByte motherboard w an onboard GPU, AMD 3200mhz 6 core processor and a ATI Radeon hd 4250 (512MB) without much issue until the latest version of movie studio. Renders have always taken a little bit long but I dealt with it. Pretty slow lag in the rendering of some of the precanned add ons like titler and motion text in general. In looking at the specs, a 4GB Video card is recommended per following:

NVIDIA® GeForce 9XX series or higher with 4 GB

AMD/ATI® Radeon with 4 GB and VCE 3.0 or higher

Intel® GPU HD Graphics 530 series or higher

I honestly think I'm heading in the direction of buying a new motherboard, processor and video card because the existing motherboard has some conflicts and limitations with other GPU's.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!!

Which version you want to use, over a month or so there will come the newest version 17.
At this moment the used newest version now 16 is for better regulation the Platinum version, that has the best specs if, you can see at this site : https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/vegas-movie-studio/specifications/#productMenu

There you have a start and at this moment those with the Nvidia GPU give the fastest render results

You don't say which OS you are using but you need Win10 for the latest VMS. Also a lot depends on what you are processing 1080 or 4K?

I wasn't aware that 17 was coming out when I purchased 16. I don't do anything that demanding. That page is where I got the specs from.

Using Windows 10 64bit. just 1080 with no future plans for 4K unless I buy a new camera soon, which I'm not really expecting. Simple editing, nothing major but I'd like better performance overall.

For no 4K and just simple editing no need to spend much on any major GPU card.

I replaced my old GT430 for gtx1050 and gain... almost nothing.
