Has to be something simple

Hi
I know this has to be a simple answer, but I've been racking my brain and can't seem to figure this out. I've been using VV3 for some time with no problems at all. All of a sudden, about a week ago, I started to have a problem capturing video. The preview frame while capturing looks just fine. But when I end the capture, the saved file is all distorted. It is diagonally chopped the way it looks on your TV when the vertical or horizontal hold is off. I upgraded to VV3c, thinking this might solve it, but no luck. I uninstalled and then reinstalled the program, but nothing. I'm running Windows XP pro with an ATI rage pro capture card. As I said, this just started happening so I'm thinking maybe it's some problem conflict with another program, possibly windows xp movie maker, or windows media player. But I thought before I start uninstalling programs, I check here with the people who seem to know. Thanks in advance

This started happening as soon as you installed XP, or after?
Maybe the Rage Pro's drivers need to be updated. Make sure that card is supported under XP.

You might also do a "Windows Update" and see if there's a recommended "safe" driver for your ATIRage. I did the same thing a while back and installed the "safe" driver. It worked! I couldn't notice any difference in my card for video. But I'm not a "Gamer".

I've been running XP for awhile now with no problems using VV. I have updated rage pros drivers to the latest one and was running VV and everything was fine. I've tried capturing with XP movie maker and everything captures just fine. I just don't like XP movie maker because it doesn't give you a lot of control over your settings. And I'm thinking maybe my problem in VV IS my settings. I'll play around again tonight with it and see if I can figure it out. Thanks for your prompt response.

*IF* you have the ati multimedia center installed, rename the folder. Put it back when you need to.

Well, got it fixed thanks to you all. I went into my video driver and rolled it back to the previous driver (one that Windows XP says is not compatible). Tested VV and got it to capture with no problems. On a hunch, I reinstalled the new driver and everything works great now. I had been having some problems with some 3D screen savers too, and now they work perfectly. Thank you all for steering me to the video driver. I was just about ready to give it all up.
