Hauppauge to Vegas Issue

I am recording gameplay footage from my XBOX 360 using a Hauppauge. I can save gameplay footage in .MP4 or .M2TS, unfortunately neither will work . I have to first convert to .WMV before they can be placed in Sony Vegas.

They videos can play fine outside of Vegas and are at 720P but I can't use them in Vegas until I save as .WMV and reduce to 480P. I realize my laptop may not have enough horsepower for HD editing (3GB Ram dual core 2.0ghz) but it still should be able to preview or play the videos, shouldn it?

Is this a codec issue?

Welcome to the forum.

What version of VMS do you have?

This may help:

I am using Vegas Movie Studio HD 9. The entry level product. The M2TS files are using a H264 MPEG4 video codec. That is what VLC is showing for codec.

There's your problem right there: I have the Hauppauge HD-PVR too and capture to 1080i M2TS. VMS HD 9 wouldn't accept these type of files, VMS HD 10 will.

I did a little test last night and if i record something that is really short like 5-10 second it would allow me to place .M2TS event in my timeline in VMS 9, but the system crashes with larger longer files.
