Hauppauge WinTV PVR-250

I'm considering a purchase of the Hauppauge WinTV PVR-250 for real-time MPEG2 capture. Does anyone have experience with this card for that purpose? Or is there something in the same price range (approx. US$150) that would be better?

I use it; it works with every dvd package I have with no problems--great product. Ever so often it creates a non acceptable file and I have to redigitize. It allows variable bit rate; a great home system card. For work you probably need to go ahead and toss $5k or so in the pot and get a professional card.

Does the PVR-250 work with SF Video Capture, or are you limited to the software in the box?

That's a short coming; it only captures with its on software or specially written drivers as it has no Video for Windows or other standard API interfaces. But the files it creates work as is with no rendering required.
